Becoming More | Excuses (Week 4)
Dr. Larry Baucom leads the fourth week of “Becoming More” – a series that follows the life of Moses.
When God calls you, how do you respond?
1. On my journey to become more, my excuses often display my insecurity.
Moses wondered why he was the one that God called to lead the Hebrews out of slavery. He believed he was a failure, nothing special, and was doubtful that he could do what God asked, that no one would follow him… but God assured Moses that he was not alone – that He was always near.
Most often, when we spend time in quiet inward reflection, God will whisper what we need to do in our life to start the process of transformation (not what everyone else needs to change about their lives). Sometimes, when we are transforming, it inspires others to do the same – this is what great leaders do: inspire by example.
2. As we become more, God often sends others to support us.
Moses’ brother came to speak on his behalf so there was a better chance of Pharaoh listening to them. Do not be afraid to receive help when you need it, and look for opportunities to do the same for others when they need support.
3. Becoming more involves insights I am to receive rather than advice I am to give.
Do not compare yourself to others. Only compare yourself to your best self, the self you could be and are working toward being. Strive to be your best self each and every day, and bring that goodness to your community and spread the love you’ve received.
Try this: put your phone on airplane mode for 10 minutes – use this focused time to reflect and listen. Use this time to become more.
