Becoming More | God Is Near (Week 3)Dr. Larry Baucom leads the third week of “Becoming More” – a series that follows the life of Moses.Have you ever thought about the decisions you’ve made (or that were made by others) that totally changed the trajectory of your life?We look at the story of Moses and the burning bush, where he had an encounter with God and was asked to do something that scared him (return to Egypt and free God’s people). How did it change his life?Exodus 3: 1-141. The issues in my life that shape me can be useful in helping others discover more.
Community is important – we are greater together than alone. When we are part of a community, we have a sense of belonging, connection, and friendship. The Suncoast Community in Sarasota is centered around the teachings of Christ, and most importantly, loving people for who they are.2. Taking time to listen can change the course of my life.
Just like Moses during his encounter with God through the burning bush – when you recognize something extraordinary is happening, that you are “standing on Holy Ground” in the presence of a loving God, stop and listen. There are holy places all around you, your back yard, your church… you can have a meaningful encounter with God if you go looking for one and keep your heart open. It may not happen when you think it will, but it is possible for anyone to experience such a special moment – just keep trying.3. Becoming more occurs when the ordinary encounters the extraordinary.
God uses people to change the world. Would it be easier if we didn’t have to lead, to be the “hands, feet, eyes and heart”? Yes. But how much better is it to know that ordinary people have the potential to do great things? We can find the courage to face life’s challenges instead of slinking away into fear and doubt. God is with you, always. When you forget that (we all do from time to time), just repeat to yourself that God is near. God is waiting for you to notice Him. When you embrace that possibility, you can begin the process of becoming more.
