Coins Carry Cesar’s Image… You Carry God’s! (Mic Drop Jesus #1) | Dr. Troy Doucet | February 8, 2026

In the opening week of the Mic Drop Jesus series, Dr. Troy Doucet invites the church to sit with one of Jesus’ most disruptive and misunderstood statements: “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” Far from a lesson on taxes or politics, Jesus delivers a mic-drop truth that exposes how easily we confuse value, loyalty, and identity. Through this encounter in the Temple, Jesus reveals that God’s Kingdom runs on an entirely different economy, one with no coins at all.

Point 1: Coins Carry Caesar’s Image — You Carry God’s

Jesus begins by asking for a coin that He doesn’t even possess, exposing that the so-called religious experts are the ones carrying Roman propaganda in the holiest place in Israel. Coins belong to Caesar because they bear his image, but people belong to God because they bear His image. Jesus reminds us that money is merely metal, while human beings are sacred. In God’s Kingdom, Caesar gets coins, but God gets people.

Point 2: Coins Declare Propaganda — You Declare Purpose

Roman currency functioned as everyday propaganda, preaching security, power, and peace throughout the empire. Jesus exposes how money shapes us not through outright lies, but through constant urgency and anxiety. His command to “give it back” strips money of its false authority. Coins are meant to be used, not trusted. When urgency loses its voice, money becomes what it was always meant to be: “a tool for living, not a treasure to live for”.

Point 3: Coins Return to Caesar — People Return to God

Coins are designed to circulate outward, back to the empire. People, however, are designed to return home to God. Jesus draws a clear distinction between transactions and transformation. Following money leads to endless exchange; following Jesus leads to restored identity and belonging. Our worth is not measured by currency but received as sons and daughters of God.

Dr. Doucet closes with a powerful illustration of a father, a son, and a priceless inheritance, reminding us that the Kingdom of God is not awarded to the highest bidder but freely given to those who embrace their true identity. God’s Kingdom has no coins, because everything that matters already belongs to Him.

Keep going with the series. This was just the beginning of Mic Drop Jesus. Continue with No Courtrooms (#2) and The Good Samaritan (#3).
