Dreamers Are Surrounded By Those Looking For Life’s Answers (Dreamers & Schemers #4) | Dr. Larry Baucom, Dr. Troy Doucet | September 13, 2025

This dialogue between Dr. Larry Baucom and Dr. Troy Doucet traces Joseph’s journey across three “weeks” of story: favored son → betrayed and sold → tested in Potiphar’s house → imprisoned → elevated through God’s gift and Joseph’s wise stewardship. Each stage contrasts dreamers (those who see God-sized futures) with schemers (those who try to sidetrack or destroy dreams), and draws practical spiritual lessons about integrity, patience, and readiness.

1. It is only too possible for dreamers to find themselves surrounded by those looking for answers to life’s questions.

Joseph’s life shows that God’s purposes move forward even in hardship. Though betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, and unjustly imprisoned, Joseph consistently rises to positions of trust in Potiphar’s house, in prison, and ultimately before Pharaoh. His prosperity is not circumstantial but rooted in God’s presence with him.

2. It is often difficult to remember an insignificant dream and difficult to forget one that is potentially life-changing.

From his jealous brothers to Potiphar’s wife to the forgetful cupbearer, schemers and obstacles appear at every stage. Their actions aim to derail Joseph’s dream, but only serve to refine his character. These encounters warn us that seduction, distraction, and self-centeredness are constant threats to God’s greater purposes in our lives.

3. When the opportunity comes for our situation to change…be ready to step forward and seize what God has for us.

The stripping away of comfort, freedom, and reputation forces Joseph to learn integrity, humility, and dependence on God. Even in prison, he interprets dreams with humility: “Do not interpretations belong to God?” When the moment comes before Pharaoh, Joseph is not only ready to interpret but also to offer wise, God-given strategies. His realignment prepares him to step into God’s appointed role.

Key Lessons

  • Dreams may be delayed, opposed, or forgotten, but not extinguished.

  • Integrity in obscurity positions us for faithfulness in opportunity.

  • God is the source of both wisdom and timing.

  • When the moment comes, be ready to step forward into what God has prepared.

Closing Illustration

Like the story of the “seed packets,” God doesn’t hand us finished products but opportunities to plant, nurture, and grow. Joseph’s story reminds us: God entrusts us with seeds of dreams; it is our task to steward them with faith, integrity, and courage until the harvest comes.
