God Uses Real People (Eyes Wide Open #4)

God Uses Real People (Eyes Wide Open #4) | Dr. Larry Baucom, Dr. Troy Doucet | August 3, 2025

Assumption #4: “I need to get my life together before I can serve God.”

“Ever feel like you want to be used by God, but think you need to get your act together first? Let us help you today, with eyes wide open.” 一Pastor Larry

  1. God Uses Real People

God never called animals to do divine work—He calls people. And not just any people—real people: the flawed, the imperfect, and the unqualified. God’s plan has always included the most unlikely humans:

  • Moses had anger issues.

  • David was impulsive and morally messy.

  • The disciples were ordinary, unremarkable men.

“God doesn’t love you because you are good, He loves you because He is good.”

一Pastor Troy

If you’re trying to be too polished to be used by God, you may be too fake to be real. What God desires is honest availability, not image management.
God uses real people.

  1. God Uses Offenders

The Bible is filled with morally complicated people who still played central roles in God’s redemptive plan:

  • Noah got drunk and cursed his unborn grandson.

  • Abraham lied about his wife to save himself.

  • Moses was a murderer.

  • David committed adultery.

  • Rahab was a prostitute.

  • Tamar seduced her father-in-law.

And yet, God used them. Why? Because grace runs deeper than failure.

“God has the gracious audacity to use those the religious community would call unusable.” 一Pastor Troy

Your past may be broken, but it’s not a barrier—it’s the raw material for God’s mercy and power.
God uses offenders.

  1. God Uses Wimps

God’s strength shows up best in weakness:

  • Moses was insecure.

  • Job vicimism.

  • Paul complained and begged God to remove his “thorn in the flesh.”

But God’s response was:

“My grace is sufficient for you. My power is made perfect in weakness.” – 2 Cor. 12:9

Pastor Troy explains the shift from needing to be great (from fear) to wanting to be great (from love).
Our world tells us we need more because we’re lacking. But the Kingdom of God starts with this truth: You already bear God’s image.

“I’ve never discovered my purpose by denying my weakness…”
