Life is a Gift (“Grateful” #1) | Dr. Larry Baucom | November 5, 2023
Dr. Larry Baucom starts a new series called “Grateful”, where we are reminded to pause and remember that life is a gift. This holiday season, let’s be grateful for what we do have.
Philipians 4:4-9
What does it mean to be grateful? How can we express it?
When we have a feeling of thankfulness, contentment, and appreciation for the world around us, we are feeling gratitude.
Point 1: I am grateful to God.
How is it possible that the loving God of the universe can be ours, close enough to hear our whispers? Because God is faithful, the breath of life, and He desires feelings of peace and comfort for his children.
What words do you use to describe God?
Point 2: I am grateful for life.
None of us are going to live forever, but we can have a full and meaningful life when we allow the spirit of Jesus to live in us.
Point 3: I am grateful in Community.
People are meant to be together, in community. We cannot ignore our obligation to others, to help where and when we can, to share what we have. Becoming the hands and feet of God begins in our hearts. When we give thanks, our hearts are opened. And when the storms of life head our way, we can be grateful that we are not alone, that God is right there beside us.
Here are some things to practice this week:
Speak words of affirmation, compliment someone. Look for the positive, not the negative. Do something for someone less fortunate. Give thanks to God.
