Do Something | Practical Prescription #4 | Dr. Larry Baucom | May 7, 2023

Dr. Larry Baucom talks about how we need to put in the work, to do something, if we want to see change in our lives. Do not be passive in your life, be active and try to remain positive.

Philippians 2: 12-16

Keep up the good work, do not stop. If you view God as living within you, instead of “out there somewhere”, you’ll be able to experience a deeper and closer connection each day.

Luke 8, Mark 4, Matthew 13

The parable of the soils teaches us about the different scenarios of growth or death for the seeds (trampled on the path, weeds choking, hard ground, good soil, etc.). It is a great lesson in how we receive (or reject) the teachings of Jesus (resisting God, being too busy for God, placing conditions on our growth, being receptive, etc.).

However, when the focus is on the sower instead of the seeds, we see the loving extravagance of the one who throws seeds everywhere – who shows the love of God to all. Some might accept it, others might not – the point is to let God work in us and to share that love with reckless abandon to all.

We need to do something about our whining and blaming when things don’t go our way. If we take responsibility for our own behavior and choices, we can begin to grow. Stop the blame game, and change your reaction to circumstances in life. Try to remedy the problem, and if you can’t, fix you attitude about it.

Live as a bright star, a shining response to grace. Show others the light of Christ in your life. This choice can be summed up in two words: be kind.

Maybe those around you don’t see or understand what is going on under the surface – maybe you don’t see what is going on in them. So be kind, because they might be blind (and you might be too).
