Dig it up | Practical Prescription #1 | Dr. Larry Baucom | April 16, 2023

Dr. Larry Baucom starts off the third installment of the popular “Practical Prescription” series. Each week, you’ll receive a simple insight, or prescription, with the goal of helping you find more and enhance your personal growth. This week, the PP is Dig it up – rediscover your talents and passions, give them to God, let them live.

Matthew 25:14 (the lazy servant)

Take what you have and use it so that it grows – that is usually the focus of this parable. Instead of coins, think of your talents and abilities that God has given you – are you using them to their full potential?

It is very natural for us to want to play it safe, but are we going to allow fear or our past experiences keep our potential buried? Will we allow our dreams to remain unrealized, our goals to never be accomplished? Do not be afraid to dig it up, do not waste what you’ve been given.

Do not expect much from someone who is drowning, he’s too busy not drowning.

Remember to be generous, especially when a big part of you wants to hoard. Empathy requires work, and when we go from being selfish (focused on our problems) to recognizing someone else’s needs, we gain a new perspective. We must find the confidence to share when we don’t want to. When we trust ourselves enough to see that we are not drowning (living a negative life) we can inspire others to do the same (swim, float, get out of the troubled waters).

Remember that the visible begins in the invisible – what is your dream or vision for the future?

2 Corinthians 4:18 (Fix your eyes not on what is seen – temporary, but on what is unseen – eternal)

When we want to live an authentic life, we must begin from within. If we let go of fear and apply the teachings of Jesus to our daily life, we find the possibility of wholeness and grace; we can discover the joy of life. When we change our inner thoughts and desires from negative to positive, we can transformour lives.

Rediscover your passions and purpose, focus your thoughts on realizing what you’ve been created to do.
