Dr. Troy Doucet introduces a new series titled “Rumors”. The series aims to explore and celebrate the positive buzz about Suncoast within the community. Over the next four weeks, the church will focus on uplifting stories from its members and the broader impact of its ministries.

Dr. Doucet began by defining a rumor as unverified information that spreads informally and can be based on partial truths or fabrications. He shared various examples of misleading rumors about churches and contrasted them with positive rumors that highlight genuine, encouraging stories.

He emphasized that authenticity in a church’s actions and message is more powerful than defending against false claims. Authenticity is about consistent presentation of values rather than constant defense.

Dr. Doucet likened community interactions to carrying two buckets—one of water and one of gasoline. He explained that individuals should use the bucket of water to extinguish harmful rumors and the bucket of gasoline to fuel positive ones. For example, amplifying positive feedback about the church’s programs reflects using gasoline.

Central to the message was the distinction between faith and faithfulness, drawn from Colossians 1:3-6. Pastor Troy highlighted that faithfulness involves living out one’s beliefs in a transformative way, beyond just holding them intellectually.

Dr. Doucet outlined three key commitments for the church:

  1. A Community Committed to Compassion, not Condemnation: Emphasizing empathy and support rather than judgment.

  2. A Community that gives Grace, not Guilt: Offering unmerited kindness and forgiveness instead of pushing guilt.

  3. A Community Focused on Faithfulness, not Fault-Finding: Focusing on encouragement and growth rather than criticism.

In closing, Dr. Doucet shared a powerful story about Ron Cotton, who was wrongfully convicted and later exonerated. Despite the wrongful accusation, Cotton forgave his accuser, Jen Thompson, illustrating the church’s commitment to grace and healing over judgment.

The sermon concluded with a call for the congregation to embody these principles, embracing God’s love and grace and reflecting them in their community interactions. Dr. Doucet’s message was a reminder of the church’s mission to be a place of compassion and authenticity, aligning its actions with its values.
