“Worship is Never Wasted” (Triggered #3) | March 17th, 2024 | Dr. Troy Doucet
Dr. Troy Doucet brings the third installment of “Triggered” with a stirring talk on the topic of worship! Presented in three salient truths inspired by Mark 14:1-9, Pastor Troy urges us to see worship as more than music.
POINT #1: Don’t let what others discount as “waste”, discourage you from what God calls “worship”.
When Mary, the sister of Lazarus – whom Jesus had resurrected – entered the room and poured out a container of perfumed oil on Jesus’ head, some were triggered. The truth that the oil was worth a year’s wages and could’ve been sold to benefit the poor didn’t sit well with some. Dr. Troy explains that any act of service, whether in continuous care for the oppressed or moments of extravagant devotion, is never seen as waste by the God we worship.
POINT #2: The level of love we experience in God will often be exemplified by the love we lavish on God.
Here, Dr. Troy shared his personal experience with God’s love saying, “there’s an undignified nature to God’s love & this divine dance I participate in– not only Love I feel from God– but Love I want to give, and give and (like Mary) pour out onto God.” Jesus said, “Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown.” The more unworthy of God’s love we feel, the more we tend to love God and others.
POINT #3: I am going for broke to follow the one broken for me to see this truth– God is LOVE.
“I AM ALL IN WITH CHRIST…because I KNOW that Jesus went for broke to reveal that CHRIST IS IN ALL!” -Dr. Troy
Pastor Troy points out that just as Mary broke the seal on the jar of alabaster, we may need to have things broken off of our lives: Greed, Lack of Trust, Addiction, Confusion, Regret… in order to have a new passion for God and renewed love for others, we may need to break negative and destructive things off of our hearts and minds.
